The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has called on Nigerians to follow the example set by the Sir David Osunde Foundation in its humanitarian efforts, emphasising that the government alone cannot address the nation’s challenges.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the foundation’s 33rd annual Thanksgiving celebration for persons with disabilities in Abuja yesterday, the archbishop praised the foundation’s transformative work over the past three decades.

“This is what we want. Touch lives. God has given you something, a talent, anything, material gift. Touch lives.

“This is what Sir David Osunde and his foundation are doing. They are touching lives positively. If everyone should just do something similar, we don’t even need a lot from the government.”

The event, held simultaneously in Abuja and Benin City, drew thousands of participants.
Kaigama highlighted the foundation’s impact, noting, “As I went round, I could see people from all parts of Abuja and other places. They are touching lives.”

The archbishop stressed the importance of individual contributions to societal welfare, urging Nigerians to complement government efforts.

“Individuals can do so much for every needy person in society. Yes, individuals must do their part, then the government must complement. Because it is their duty to look after all these people,” he said.

Reflecting on the foundation’s 33 years of service, Kaigama congratulated the organisation for its active performance, positive performance, and great achievements, paying tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a “mighty Iroko” whose death has shaken the world.

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, also commended the foundation’s enduring commitment to the physically challenged.

“The Osunde Foundation has done so much to put smiles on the faces of the physically challenged in this country and abroad,” she said.

Tallen said the foundation provided scholarships and support for education, praying for its continued strength to carry out its mission.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Adamu Isa from Abaji Area Council expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support, which has enabled recipients to meet basic needs and assist others.

“Whatever we have from the foundation, we use it to help other people and change our movement source. When it comes, we share it equally and distribute it to the area council. It has helped us a lot.”

Isa offered prayers for the foundation, asking for divine grace to sustain its work.

“May the Lord give them more grace so that the door will open for them in a way that will be supplied to us and to help us in times of our need,” he said.
