The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has scheduled local government elections for November 30, 2024.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Chairman of KANSIEC, Professor Sani Malunfashi, outlined the timeline for the electoral process.

“All campaign activities will commence on September 6, 2024, while expression of interest forms will be available from October 1 and must be submitted by October 18,” he stated.

Professor Malunfashi also mentioned that all candidates would be required to undergo drug tests administered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before receiving clearance to participate in the election.

“The elections will be held on November 30, and the results will be announced by December 1,” he assured, emphasising the commission’s dedication to ensuring free and fair elections.

Additionally, the KANSIEC chairman warned against placing posters on government properties and the use of thugs to disrupt the electoral process, stating that such actions would not be tolerated.

LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier announced the forthcoming local government elections in Kano State following the Supreme Court’s ruling that granted financial autonomy to local government administration across the country.
