Members of the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) have resolved to show their appreciation to a tricycle operator, popularly called ‘A Daidata Sahu’, Auwalu Salisu, by donating a percentage of their salaries to reward him for his sincerity and honesty.

The 22-year-old tricycle rider returned a missing sum of N15 million to the rightful owner, a Chadian businessman, who boarded his tricycle in Kano.

The lawmakers said their decision was to encourage others to emulate Salisu’s virtue of honesty.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Isma’il Jibril Falgore, said that the Assembly would invite the tricycle rider over to present their donation to him.

According to Salisu, the Chadian businessman had boarded his tricycle over the weekend but forgot the huge cash when he came down from the tricycle at a location in the Kano metropolis.

“Just about some minutes after he alighted from the tricycle, I saw the money and immediately proceeded to where the man alighted, but I could not locate him.

“When I reached my house, I informed my mother and father about the money somebody had left in my tricycle.

“My father quickly informed his senior brother, and they all directed me to find a way to return the money to the owner,” he narrated.

A source close to the family revealed that Salisu’s family was facing economic hardship but chose to be honest and return the money by searching for the owner.

LEADERSHIP gathered that a public announcement was made on a local radio station by the owner, who begged for his money to be returned back.

Salisu, after hearing the announcement over the radio, made a phone call to the man. He told the Chadian businessman that the best place to return the money to him was at the premises of the same radio station that made the announcement, so that he can give him back the money in the presence of everyone.

LEADERSHIP reports that all the 40 members of the State House of Assembly representing 44 local government areas of the state supported the motion to reward Salisu in order to encourage others to emulate his good character.
