A notable Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abdullahi Gadon Kaya, has apologised to the government of Bauchi State over misinformation he propagated during one of his recent preachings in which he claimed that homosexuals across the country converged in an undisclosed hotel in Bauchi State to commit sodomy.
He also alleged that the homosexuals rented the hotel at a whooping sum of N100,000,000 for a 10-day long event.
Gadon Kaya said he was reliably informed by someone in Bauchi State who called him on the phone to tell him.
LEADERSHIP reports that the allegations by the cleric generated uproar in the state and country, leading to his invitation by the Bauchi State Shariah Commission to give evidence of the act.
However, after the state government’s invitation through the commission, Gadon Kaya appeared in a viral Facebook video, monitored by our correspondent, debunking his previous allegations.
He said the security agents conducted thorough investigations into the matter but discovered it was a false allegation.
He appealed to the Bauchi State government and security agencies for the misinformation, stressing that he was misled by someone he declined to reveal his identity.
“I apologise to the government of Bauchi state and security agents, and I want to state that I did not mean to hurt anyone with that misinformation. During preachings, one may sometimes say something correctly or incorrectly,” he said.
