Kano State commissioner for women, children and the physically challenged, Hajiya Aisha Saji and her counterparts from the ministry of health and works and housing, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf and Engr. Marwan Ahmad respectively, have conducted a needs assessment at the Torrey Home, Tudun Maliki and Remand Home, Goron Dutse to improve their conditions.

The assessment visits followed Governor Abba Yusuf’s directives on request for intervention by Hon. Saji especially in the area of health service delivery and renovation of the social homes.

Speaking during the visit, Hajiya Aisha Saji said the major set-back at the homes included lack of readily accessible health facilities, dilapidated structures and inadequate security personnel, among others.
She urged the works commissioner to look into the possibility of reclaiming some of the structures taken over by a government agency around the vicinity in order to enable staff of the home who operate in makeshift offices to work effectively and efficiently in a conducive atmosphere.
Addressing inmates at the remand home in Goron Dutse, Saji cautioned new inmates most of whom are underage protesters arrested during the recent hunger protest to be of good conduct when they are released or the state would not take it likely with any one charged with any criminal offense in the future.

She prayed and wished them a changed, decent and meaningful future ahead.

The three commissioners formed an on-the- spot assessment committee for proper assessment of such needs at the facilities for follow ups and comprehensive feedback.
