A set of conjoined babies out of a triplets, Hassana Isa and Husaina Isa, joined at the chest and sharing some vital organs, have left Kano State on Monday for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to undergo surgery to get them separated.

The surgery is to be bankrolled by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSARelief) under the directive of the custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman bn Abdulaziz.

The surgery is scheduled to take place at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where they will undergo thorough medical evaluation, and a team of experts including pediatrics surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses will oversee the entire process.

In a press statement made available to journalists at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano before the departure of the family, the Press Attache at the Saudi Embassy, Muhammad Alsahabi, added that, “The twins’ family will be accommodated in Riyadh, and a support system will be in place to provide comfort and assistance throughout the journey.

“The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian causes and its dedication to helping those in need, regardless of their nationality or background.”

Speaking to LEADERSHIP, the mother of the conjoined twins, Suwaiba Basiru, said she gave birth to triplets, out of which two of them were conjoined.

She, however, expressed gratitude that they were going to undergo surgery to be separated in order to live a normal life.

“Their names are Hassana, Husaina and Hauwa. It is Hassana and Husaina that are conjoined.

“I pray that we have a successful outing in Saudi Arabia and come back even happier. I thank the authorities behind this and pray to God Almighty to reward them,” the mother said.

The Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was at the airport to bid them farewell, thanked the Saudi Arabian leader, King Salman bn Abdulaziz, for his humanitarian support to the people of Kano State in particular.

He expressed gratitude to him for taking up the charitable task as he did last year to the first conjoined twins of Kano State origin, who were recuperating after a successful surgery.
