Kano State government has debunked social media claims of sexual molestation of a minor in one of the public primary schools in the state.
The state commissioner for Education, Umar Doguwa, made the clarification yesterday while briefing journalists, saying issues of concern should be channelled to the appropriate authorities than taken to social media.
A Kano-based activist Mansurah Isah had posted a video on social media calling attention on how a primary school girl was sexually molested by some group of boys in the said school.
Doguwa, however, called on the public to direct any subject of concern to government as they are freely available to listen.
“We don’t want people going on air speculating what actually didn’t take place in any of our schools,” he said.
„We were able to reach her and she showed remorse and assured us she is going to trash the video as a way of moving this state forward. This is because she didn‘t do due diligence before releasing the video in the first place,” he said.
The commissioner however thanked the media, the Kano Hisbah command, State Ministry of Health, and SUBEB for their timely interventions to resolve the situation and hoped that the situation won‘t repeat itself.
