Former minister of interior, Bello Yusuf Maitama Yusuf, Sardaunan Dutse, died yesterday at the age of 76.

He was minister of interior in 1981 and minister of commerce in 1982. He served as a senator from 1999 to 2007.

The death was announced by family sources early yesterday in Kano.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described his death as a colossal loss to not only his family but the entire nation.

In a condolence message signed by his chief press secretary, Sanusi Bature, he said the death created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill considering his position in society.
