Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.
The decision comes amid public outrage after document surfaced linking the Commissioner to the suspect’s release.
In response to the outrage, Governor Yusuf constituted a special investigative committee to probe the matter and recommend immediate action.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor named Barrister Aminu Hussain as the chairman of the committee.
Hussain currently serves as the Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters to the Kano State governor.
Other members include Barrister Hamza Haladu, Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, retired Major General Sani Muhammad, Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as secretary.
The committee is “mandated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions with immediate effect.”
Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the allegations and reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for drug abuse and social vices.
LEADERSHIP reports that Kano State Commissioner for Transport initially stood at surety to fulfill the bail conditions set by the court for the suspect.
However, due to mounting public outrage, Namadi withdroodew as the suspect’s surety, citing private and image issues as reasons for his withdrawal.
The Commissioner further stated that his decision to stand for the suspect as a surety was not with any sinister intention.
