The Kano State Government has rejected claims that it performed poorly in implementing the 2025 budget, insisting that the allegations were misleading and not supported by facts.
The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Alhaji Musa Shanono, stated this while addressing journalists in Kano, faulting comments credited to a former Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and Chief of Staff to the former APC National Chairman, Comrade Muhammad Garba.
Shanono said the remarks, which alleged that the NNPP-led administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recorded an embarrassingly poor budget performance in the first three quarters of 2025, were based on misinterpretation of a recent budget review published by an online platform.
According to him, the budget performance report was prepared quarterly and released within four weeks after each quarter, in line with the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
He explained that the third quarter report largely reflected projects funded through the state treasury, noting that other funding sources supporting key sectors such as water resources, health and education were not fully captured.
“The government has done its best in the implementation of the 2025 budget. The Ministry of Planning and Budget is already working with relevant MDAs to address observable gaps in subsequent reports,” he said.
Shanono compared the 2025 capital performance with that of the 2022 budget under the previous APC administration, noting improvements across sectors.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Science and Technology recorded 23.3 per cent capital performance in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 9 per cent in 2022. The Ministry of Education recorded 32.2 per cent in 2025 against 15.1 per cent in 2022, while higher education rose from zero per cent in 2022 to 7.7 per cent in 2025.
The Health sector, he added, recorded 12 per cent capital performance in 2025 compared to 2.5 per cent in 2022, stressing that several cross-cutting projects executed by other MDAs also contributed to education and health outcomes but were not reflected in the report.
