The Kano State Government has halted the illegal felling of trees in Naibawa, Dan Hassan area and arrested suspects involved in the act.

Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change revealed this in a post on Saturday posted on its official Facebook page.

The government, in the post, said some individuals were caught cutting down large trees without government authorisation.

“We received reports of some unpatriotic citizens are engaged in illegal felling of trees by residents of NaibawIMG 20250824 WA0014 IMG 20250824 WA0012 1a.

“The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, visited the site immediately and the exercise was stopped on the spot, the suspects arrested, and their equipment, including a chainsaw, seized and handed over to security operatives,” the post partly reads.

The Ministry strongly warned the public to desist from damaging trees without authorisation. “Cutting down trees without government approval is a serious offense that attracts legal consequences—even if the tree is inside a private residence.

“Residents are warned to desist, as the government has banned the indiscriminate use of chainsaws and other tree-cutting tools,” the statement emphasised.
