The Kano State Government has donated 15 cows, 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of cooking oil and other assorted soup ingredients to inmates in correctional centres across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The items were presented to the Nigerian Correctional Service Kano State Command on Monday by the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji.
Bebeji said the gesture reflected the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the welfare, dignity and rehabilitation of inmates in the state.
She said the governor remained committed to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting humane policies aimed at restoring hope and dignity to inmates undergoing rehabilitation.
According to her, the administration places high priority on social welfare and correctional support initiatives designed to encourage reformation and reintegration.
She also conveyed the governor’s goodwill message to inmates and urged them to continue praying for peace, unity and progress in Kano State.
Receiving the items on behalf of the correctional service, the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, commended the state government for its continued support for inmates across the state.
Lakpene said the donation would boost the morale of inmates and enable them to celebrate the Sallah season with joy and a sense of belonging.
“On behalf of the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, we sincerely appreciate the Kano State Government for its unwavering support to inmates in Kano State,” he said.
