The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made this known while on a condolence visit to the Kano State government yesterday.

Represented by the Zone 1 Zonal Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal Ahmad Umar, the corps marshal said the scene where the accident happened has been notorious for being prone to fatal road traffic crashes.

He said, “We in FRSC believe that road traffic crashes do not just occur but it is caused by some factors which we believe that if properly managed, the situation can be greatly averted.

“Part of our mandate is to conduct research into the causes of road traffic crashes to proffer solutions or recommendations to the appropriate authorities.

“That particular spot is quite notorious for being prone to fatal road traffic crashes.

“We have already initiated an investigation into the remote and immediate cause of the tragic crash and we are going to make our observations and recommendations available not only to our headquarters but even the Kano State government for further necessary actions to avoid the recurrence of these kind of tragic loss.

“We believe with necessary collaboration we can mitigate or prevent further loss of lives,” he stated.
While sympathising with the state government and families affected, he restated the corps’ commitment to educating members of the public on proper road use, discipline, and safety.

In his remarks, the Kano State governor, who was represented by the deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, thanked the corps for their visit.

He also lamented on how that particular scene has recorded many fatal accidents for decades, noting that the government is willing to do anything humanly possible to prevent such kinds of accidents and loss of lives in the state.

“Anywhere you know that is a death trap within and outside the city, please don’t hesitate to tell the government, it is a duty that we would collectively raise to it,” he stated.

He, however, noted that losing a quantum number of 22 young people at a go in the state is shocking and devastating, adding that their visit demonstrates the corps’ concern and sympathy to the good people of the state and families of the deceased.
