The Kano State Government has handed over the School of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development, Rano, to the Steering Committee overseeing the establishment of the proposed Federal Polytechnic in the area.
The handover was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
According to the statement, Governor Abba Yusuf, who spoke recently during the handover ceremony, said the state government would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful establishment and take-off of the institution.
Yusuf, who met with members of the Steering Committee and inspected facilities earmarked for the proposed polytechnic, stressed the importance of technical education and skills development in equipping young people with the knowledge required for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
The governor also said the state government would upgrade facilities and improve the learning environment at the school’s new location in Sumaila Local Government Area to enhance teaching and learning.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, Senator Kawu Sumaila and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, for their efforts towards actualising the project.
Yusuf also commended members of the Steering Committee for their sustained efforts and commitment to the establishment of the institution.
Speaking separately, Sumaila and Rurum thanked the President for approving the polytechnic and the governor for providing the support and enabling environment needed for its actualisation.
They expressed optimism that the institution would expand access to technical education, promote skills acquisition and create opportunities for young people in Kano and beyond.
A member of the Steering Committee, Senator UK Umar, however, called for the allocation of additional hectares of land to accommodate future expansion and provide adequate space for academic and supporting infrastructure.
