Kano Gov’t Renames Institute, Commission After Deceased 22 Athletes

Kano State governor, Engr Abba Yusuf has, officially renamed the Kano State Sports Institute and the Kano State Sports Commission in memory of the 22 athletes who tragically lost their lives while returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The newly designated names will be the Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Institute and the Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Commission.

Governor Yusuf expressed that the people of Kano take pride in the sacrifices made by the late athletes, ensuring they will be remembered forever.

This announcement came during a courtesy visit from Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and her team, who presented a donation of N110 million to the families of the deceased athletes.

Additionally, Governor Yusuf assured that the government would cater to the education of the children of the victims. He also stated that the wives of the deceased would be engaged in empowerment schemes, while arrangements would be made to support the parents of those who were unmarried.
