Kano Gov’t Suspends Acting Head Of Service Over Alleged Salary Fraud

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has suspended the Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Salisu Mustapha over allegation bordering on salary deductions and non-payment of civil servants’ salaries.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued on Thursday night by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The embattled official has also been directed to step aside from his role as Permanent Secretary, Establishment under the Office of the Head of Service to allow for an unhindered investigation.

Mustapha was appointed as Acting Head of Service earlier this month following the medical leave of the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.

In a move to maintain administrative continuity, Governor Yusuf has appointed Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation, and Policy Analysis (REPA) as the new Acting Head of Service.

LEADERSHIP reports that this decision follows Governor Yusuf’s pledge to hold anyone involved in financial malpractice related to salary payments accountable.
The seven-member investigative committee, chaired by Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam was inaugurated on Thursday with a seven-day mandate to complete its findings on the alleged salary irregularities.
