The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the mobile phone movie download business across all 44 local government areas of the state, saying the activity contributes to the spread of content considered contrary to Islamic teachings and societal values.
The Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, announced the ban, stating that it forms part of the agency’s efforts to protect public morality, promote good conduct and ensure compliance with Islamic principles.
According to him, investigations conducted by the board revealed that operators of the mobile phone movie download business facilitate the distribution of films and videos containing material that violates religious teachings, cultural norms and accepted moral standards.
He said the practice has contributed to the moral decline of young people and the circulation of inappropriate content within society.
“The decision is part of our efforts to safeguard the moral upbringing of the public, promote good values and ensure adherence to the teachings of Islam,” Aminuddeen said.
He added that the directive takes immediate effect and that the board would work with relevant stakeholders to ensure full compliance across the state.
The acting commander-general warned operators involved in the business to discontinue the activity immediately, stressing that anyone found violating the order would face sanctions in accordance with the law.
