Dr. Mubark Mahmud PhD, an environmental researcher originally from Kano State and now residing in France, has developed a groundbreaking technique for measuring tree height, now recognised as the “Mahmud Method.” This method has been integrated into the M-Tree software, utilised by universities across France for assessing tree height and diameter.

The innovation was officially launched at Université Paris-Saclay on 30 April and has been published in the journal Smart Agricultural Technology, with plans for incorporation into educational curricula in various institutions. There are also intentions to enhance the research through Artificial Intelligence.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s prominent billionaire businessman, praised Dr. Mahmud during a convocation ceremony at Aliko Dangote University of Science & Technology, Wudil, noting his achievement as a significant honour for Kano State and Nigeria. He stated, “Kano should take pride in Dr. Mubarak’s invention of a tree height measurement device, which has been officially endorsed by the French government.”
