The Kano State chapter of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has demanded the immediate return of official vehicles in the possession of some former party chairmen who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party said the vehicles were donated to it by Senator Rufai Hanga to enhance its logistical operations across designated local government areas in the state.

According to a statement issued by the NNPP Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, the party was disturbed by reports that some of its former chairmen who left the party alongside the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, were still keeping the party vehicles meant strictly for NNPP assignments.

Karaye stressed that the vehicles were not personal gifts to individuals but party assets meant to support NNPP activities at the grassroots level.

According to him, it amounted to a serious breach of trust for any former party official to retain custody of items that do not belong to them in the first place.

“The vehicles were donated by Senator Rufai Hanga to the NNPP as a party, not to any individual. They were provided strictly to ease logistical operations for party functions within their respective local government areas,” Karaye said.

He warned that the party would not hesitate to pursue legal action against any former chairman who failed to comply with the directive.

Karaye added that the party leadership had resolved to retrieve all its working tools and official items from defectors in order to safeguard its property and ensure proper utilisation for party activities.

He called on the affected individuals to return the vehicles without delay, noting that the NNPP would consider any further refusal as deliberate sabotage and unlawful possession of party property.

Karaye urged party supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the NNPP would take all lawful steps to recover the vehicles and strengthen its structures across the state.
