The Kano State chapter of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has asked the National Assembly to replace the Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, over what it described as recent anti-party activities.
The party alleged that Madaki was recently sighted attending a local caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, alongside prominent APC stakeholders.
The NNPP publicity secretary in Kano State, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, said the lawmaker’s actions were inconsistent with the NNPP constitution, stressing that Madaki had not formally resigned his membership from the party.
“Hon. Aliyu Sani was recently pictured attending a local APC caucus meeting in his Dala Local Government Area alongside key stakeholders. As he has not formally resigned from the NNPP, his actions contravene the party’s constitution,” Karaye said in a statement.
According to Karaye, the party viewed the development as a clear violation of party loyalty and discipline, adding that the continued stay of Madaki in the minority leadership position could undermine the credibility of the opposition bloc in the National Assembly.
The NNPP therefore urged the National Assembly leadership to immediately replace the Deputy Minority Whip with another “committed and loyal” member of the party.
Karaye said the party’s request was aimed at safeguarding the interests of the minority caucus in the legislature and preventing what he described as attempts by the ruling APC to weaken opposition parties.
He further warned that allowing lawmakers allegedly engaging in anti-party activities to retain key leadership positions could strengthen the APC’s influence and pave the way for what he termed a one-party state.
The NNPP spokesman maintained that the party remained committed to democratic principles and urged relevant authorities to take necessary steps to protect Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
