As reactions continued to trail the decision of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to probe his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje; foremost pro-democracy group, the Kano Patriots, has come hard on the Governor, saying he is wasting the state resources and administration’s time.

Governor Yusuf had on Thursday last week inaugurated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate alleged corruption, misappropriation of public properties, political violence and missing persons under his predecessor, Ganduje.

But the governor limited the commissions’ scope of investigation to 2015 – 2023, when Ganduje served two consecutive terms in office, raising questions as to what happened to the tenure of Mallam Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Yusuf also went further, in a statement on Sunday by his spokesperson,  Sanusi  Tofa, to urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the result of its probe into the alleged dollar bribery video involving Ganduje.

But a press statement signed by its President, Barr. Aliyu Mohammed on Tuesday, the Kano Patriot charged Governor Yusuf, to “start counting in days, hours and minutes of the remaining months and years he has to spend in the office and how he could maximise his stay to better the lives of Kano people”.

The group described Yusuf as “a man using his legs to pursue crickets while carrying an elephant on his head”, saying the Governor has abandoned the task of governance for petty politics.

“The problem with some of our leaders is that they don’t know the difference between politics and governance and they find it difficult most times to separate the two.

“Abba Yusuf of all people should know that the era of politics is gone and the earlier he settles down with the business of governance, the better for him and the entire Kano people. It is very wrong to be playing active politics when the entire world looks unto you to deliver on governance.

“If it is not pure petty politics, how on earth would you describe the probe of your predecessor who is of a different political party and you refused to include the Governor before him, simply because he is of the same political lineage with you? Why can’t the probe include the tenure of Kwankwaso? the statement added.
