The Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board has relieved the officers in charge of two primary healthcare centres in Gezawa Local Government Area feom their duties and sactioned some staff members over absenteeism and failure to report to work on time.

The executive secretary of the Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, announced the sanctions after conducting an unannounced inspection of the Tsalle and Gofaro Primary Healthcare Centres to assess service delivery on Wednesday.

Speaking on the outcome of the visit, Ibrahim said the affected facility heads had been replaced by their deputies in an acting capacity pending the conclusion of investigations into the alleged misconduct.

“We want staff to realize when you are placed in a leadership role you must do your absolute best to fulfill your responsibility. So we are not trying to be unfair to them, there are consequences to every action,” Ibrahim said.

He warned that the state government would no longer tolerate negligence or absenteeism among healthcare workers, stressing that strict disciplinary measures would continue to be enforced to improve service delivery across public health facilities.

“Staff are supposed to adhere to the highest standards, we found that lacking in the two facilities because we arrived at 10am and only three people had reported to work. That is unacceptable, as a healthcare personnel you should begin your shift at 8am and close by 4pm,” Ibrahim revealed.

In contrast, the executive secretary commended the staff and community members at the Panshekara Primary Healthcare Centre in Kumbotso Local Government Area for their commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare.

“We were impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and how the leadership took the initiative to be proactive in spending their resources to strengthen service delivery, ” Ibrahim emphasized.

According to him, the inspection revealed that the facility had acquired an ultrasound machine to enhance antenatal care and improve health outcomes for pregnant women and newborns.

Ibrahim said the Board would continue to reward outstanding performance while taking firm action against negligent personnel to ensure an efficient and responsive primary healthcare system across Kano State.
