The Kano State Fire Service has reported that five lives were lost and property worth ₦273.7 million were destroyed in various fire outbreaks across the state in May 2025.

In a statement on Thursday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Service disclosed that it received a total of 71 emergency calls last month, comprising 55 fire calls, 9 rescue, and 7 false alarms.

Despite the losses, the agency revealed that it was able to save property estimated at ₦446.6 million and successfully rescued five persons.

Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas urged residents to remain vigilant, especially with the approach of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

“I want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidences, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah festival,” Anas said.

Motorists were also advised to drive carefully and comply with traffic regulations to avoid accidents that could delay emergency response.
