The Kano State Film Censorship Board has shut down an herbal medicine shop following allegations that its owner used children in an indecent advertisement promoting sexual enhancement products.
The board, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said the action was taken after receiving several complaints about the advert, which contained inappropriate language and imagery.
Chairman of the board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, confirmed that the shop was ordered closed and the seller, popularly known as Nagwale, was summoned to appear before the board to respond to the allegations.
Speaking on the development, the Director in charge of the Ethics Department, Alhaji Zakari Garun Babba, described the act of advertising such products in public, especially involving children, as a serious offence under the law.
He warned that such conduct could attract severe sanctions.
“Sellers and promoters of these kinds of products must understand that involving children or indecent content in adverts is unacceptable and punishable,” he said
The statement disclosed that the accused admitted wrongdoing and sought forgiveness from the people of Kano.
As part of disciplinary measures, the board directed him to issue a written, audio, and video apology, which will be kept as evidence for future reference.
It also reiterated that it is legally empowered to monitor the activities of herbal medicine practitioners, particularly in advertising, to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
It stressed its commitment to protecting public morality and safeguarding children from exploitation.
