Kano State secretary to the state government (SSG) Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, who was rumoured to have had physical combat with the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, following a disagreement, has returned home from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he went for medical attention.
It would be recalled that the state government had on December 7, 2023 approved the appointment of Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa to serve as acting SSG, pending the return of Bichi from medical trip.
The purported disagreement between the SSG and the state governor fueled speculations of infighting in the seven months old administration of Yusuf in Kano.
It would also be recalled that Yusuf, at a ceremony, recently cleared the air and disclosed that „because we have appointed the HoS as acting SSG, does not mean we sacked Bichi.
Is just that we cannot allow the position to be vacant because of its sensitive nature.
“I personally overheard some persons speaking with full authority in the local radio programme that we exchanged deadly blows between myself and the SSG.
“You know some people who are jobless and see politics as their source of living always try to create rumours to create unnecessary tension, but this time they have failed woefully.“
Yusuf hinted that the “SSG is recuperating, and as soon as he returns, he will take charge in his position as the SSG and continue from where he stopped.
Bichi’s job is waiting for him and I want to assure everyone that he is still in charge.“
However, the SSG‘s return is at a time when the entire state is in suspense as it awaits the decision of the Supreme Court on the Kano governorship tussle in a couple of days.
The SSG, looking fresh, and agile, was welcomed to Kano at Aminu Kano International Airport yesterday by family, friends and well-wishers.
