The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has unveiled plans to establish 30 learning centres across three local government areas in a renewed push to expand access to basic education for out-of-school children in the state.

The initiative, part of the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Matching Grant Intervention Programme, is aimed at integrating Tsangaya pupils and out-of-school girls into formal education.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of public enlightenment of the board, Balarabe Danlami.

Speaking at Garun Dau Special Primary School in Warawa Local Government Education Authority, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, said the centres would provide structured learning opportunities for children who have been excluded from conventional education.

Represented by the Director of Social Mobilisation and Enlightenment, Aminu Dalha, Kabir explained that the programme is designed to make modern basic education more accessible to Tsangaya pupils and girls, thereby improving their future prospects.

According to him, the first phase of the intervention will cover Albasu, Bagwai and Warawa local government areas, with 10 learning centres to be sited in each council area.

He added that the learning schedule would be tailored to suit the specific needs of the beneficiaries, while two facilitators would be deployed to each centre to ensure effective teaching and improved comprehension.

Kabir assured that adequate instructional materials would be provided, and facilitators engaged under the scheme would receive allowances to support their services.

He urged the selected facilitators to discharge their duties with dedication and integrity to ensure the success of the programme.
