The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 53 suspected thugs and drug dealers in a series of coordinated operations aimed at curbing criminal activities in the state.
The crackdown, which took place between March 13 and 14, targeted criminal hideouts and black spots in Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’en, and Dan Agundi areas of the State capital.
According to a statement issued by the committee’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the intelligence-led operations led to the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs and weapons.
Recovered items included three parcels and 50 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, two bottles of codeine syrup, two tubes of rubber solution, a gallon of “suck and die,” and 105 pieces of suspected exol tablets. The security operatives also confiscated five cutlasses, two pairs of scissors, two wooden clubs, and a bulk of suspected charms.
The statement further disclosed that a major raid at a notorious drug joint in Zanzado led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa. Additionally, a delivery vehicle and five cattle believed to belong to a known drug dealer were seized at the location.
“All the suspects arrested will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement added.
The task force, chaired by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, is a collaborative effort involving security agencies and government officials, aimed at restoring peace and ensuring a safer environment in Kano State.
