Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State yesterday declared his administration’s determination to end over-reliance on federal allocations by strengthening Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through strategic reforms.
Yusuf spoke at the induction ceremony of the 120 newly recruited KIRS members of staff in Kano.
Yusuf emphasised that modern tax administration required digital tools, improved logistics, and continuous training.
He assured the residents that revenue collected would be transparently deployed to improve lives.
According to Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor prioritises welfare and operational efficiency of revenue officers to enhance productivity and accountability.
“We’ve commenced a review of the Cost of Collection policy to achieve efficiency and sustainability,” he quoted Yusuf as stating.
Meanwhile, Yusuf will transmit the Kano State Tax Harmonisation Bill to the Kano State House of Assembly for deliberation and passage into law before the end of December.
The bill consolidates, updates, and modernises tax statutes, eliminates overlaps, and provides clearer guidance on powers and obligations.
Yusuf urged the KIRS staffers to carry out their duties with dignity, fairness, and professionalism.
