The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency has emerged as the best-performing state in the country under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund(BHCPF) Gateway enrolment for the first quarter of 2026 after surpassing its target by more than 110,000 beneficiaries.

According to the National Health Insurance Authority’s BHCPF Gateway Q1 2026 Enrolment Report, Kano enrolled 327,410 beneficiaries against an expected target of 216,775, placing the state ahead of all others in the federation.

The agency, in a statement on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Aminu  Turaki, attributed the feat to the Kano State Government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved residents.

It said the performance reflected sustained efforts to strengthen health insurance coverage and advance universal health coverage across the state.

The statement also credited the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar, with driving reforms that boosted enrolment through community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement and the expansion of contributory health insurance schemes.

It added that the agency’s performance demonstrated the effectiveness of its people-centred policies, strategic partnerships and data-driven implementation model in improving access to healthcare services.

According to the agency, the latest ranking reinforces Kano’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading states in healthcare financing under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

KSCHMA expressed appreciation to the National Health Insurance Authority, the Federal Ministry of Health, healthcare providers, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, community-based organisations and other stakeholders for their support in achieving the milestone.

The agency pledged to sustain the momentum by expanding enrolment, improving service delivery and strengthening the quality of healthcare provided under the scheme.

It added that efforts would continue to ensure more residents, especially those in vulnerable groups, benefit from affordable and accessible healthcare services across Kano State.
