Kano Trains Women On Renewable Energy

Kano State government has trained 80 young women on renewable energy skills as part of its efforts in empowering women in the state.

Speaking during the graduation of the second batch of 40 graduands at the Bayero University Centre for Renewable Energy Studies (CRES), the state’s deputy governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, said skills were vital for the development and future of the state and nation.

He reiterated government’s commitment to empower more women to make them self-reliant towards a sustainable society, noting that when a woman is empowered, the immediate society benefits.

While tasking the graduands to ensure their products are available and accessible in the market for people to access and  utilise, Comrade Gwarzo urged them to be confident while they succeed with their new skills and ensure they continue in that line for sustainability.

Aslo speaking, the 16th Emir of Kano, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, tasked graduands to ensure the new skills they acquired are used in growing the economy.

He stressed that the new technologies when properly harnessed would help in addressing climate change, deforestation and other environmental challenges.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sagir who was represented by the deputy vice chancellor research and development, Abdullahi Sule, called on the state government to strengthen all the tertiary institutions in the state and promote massive education for youths of the state.

 

He said, based on the recommendation of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, youths in Kano can be liberated from ignorance by using the available institutions and government will within a decade.

 

Senior Special Adviser to governor Abba Yusuf on Education, Yasmin Murhtar, who organised the training, highlighted that the graduands were trained on bio gas production, solar design and clean stove development.
