The Kano State government has warned residents against illegal felling of trees following the negative impact it has on the environment and ecosystem.

It stated that anyone found wanting would be made to face the wrath of the law.

The commissioner for environment and climate change, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, stated this while conducting a special tour to inspect the work done by the government and  National Agency for the Great Green Wall (GGW) in the areas of shelter belts, wood lock, nurseries and other plantation services at Danbatta, Makoda, Kunchi and some parts of Bichi local government areas of the state.

A statement by the ministry’s director of public enlightenment, Ismail Garba Gwammaja, quoted the commissioner as appreciating the status of the locations site but urged residents of the state to always be mindful with the seedlings to support government to look after them and nurse them to mature level by protecting them against climate change and other land degradation.
