The governor disclosed this in Kaduna at a Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies workshop on “Conflict Management from Harmonious Industrial Labour Relations Environment” organised for the Kano State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates.

Represented by the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, Abdullahi Musa, the governor confirmed that the state will pioneer the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“To confirm that and to demonstrate the kind of seriousness the government have on the implementation of the new minimum wage, we are going to be in Kaduna for a retreat, particularly to address issues that have to do with minimum wage in Kano State”, he said.

Governor Yusuf had earlier in August, 2024 inaugurated advisory committee on the implementation of the new minimum wage in Kano State.

“The entire advisory committee is here in Kaduna to discuss on the issue of minimum wage to be able to conclude, and hopefully by next week we will deliver our submission/report to the governor for possible action. So by grace of God we will be the first to key in, in making this possible”.

According to the governor, the relationship between Kano workers and the government is very peaceful and harmonious.

Earlier, the director general, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu tasked workers on the need to engage in constructive negotiation with the government for positive results, adding that negotiation is key in unionism.

The controller of Labour, Kaduna State, Isah Bello Dambazau urged participants to remain united and share experiences and insights that will empower them to navigate the complexities of workplace interactions.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the director Trade Union Education Department of MINILS, Dr. Raji Michael explained that the workshop aimed at bringing together the key stakeholders to enhance their understanding of conflict and equip them with practical tools for solutions.

He however, noted that the workshop will empower participants to become effective mediators and advocates for peaceful industrial relations.
