The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 3,000 electric motorcycles to be distributed to teachers serving in hard-to-reach communities across the state at subsidized rates.
The state commissioner for basic and secondary education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the fifth regular meeting of the State Executive Council.
Jibia explained that the approval followed the presentation of a memo by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to the council.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at addressing transportation challenges faced by teachers posted to remote areas where poor road networks and long distances often make daily commuting difficult.
He noted that providing electric motorcycles will significantly improve teachers’ mobility, enabling them to report to their duty posts on time and perform their responsibilities more effectively.
The commissioner added that the move forms part of the state government’s broader commitment to strengthening the education sector and supporting teachers working in underserved communities.
He further said that by easing transportation challenges, the initiative is expected to enhance teachers’ productivity and commitment, thereby improving the overall quality of teaching and learning in schools across Katsina State.
Jibia also commended the governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, for approving the establishment of Teachers’ Training and Development Centres in the Katsina, Daura and Funtua zones to further strengthen teacher capacity in the state.
