Katsina State government has disbursed the sum of N20m to 33 families of local vigilante members who died in the line of duty.
The State governor, Umar Dikko Radda, at the official presentation of cash to the victims’ families in the State at the weekend said that no fewer than 10 vigilantes sustained various degree of injuries.
The family of a military personnel who lost his life, received N1m.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Abdullahi Faskari, added that some of the beneficiaries would receive N500,000 cash, reiterating that some members of the public who sustained injuries during the recent bandit attacks across the affected areas would also be considered in due course.
Mallam Radda maintained that the gesture was part of his campaign promises towards appreciating those who sacrificed their lives and comfort in securing the state. He assured the commitment of his administration towards fighting insecurity and other related crimes and criminality across the state.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Support of Victims of Banditry, Sa’idu Danja, said the government had spent over N11.8m for the treatment of victims of banditry attacks, adding that over 80 victims were treated for free at various health facilities and about 40 of them had since been discharged.
