The Katsina State Government has trained not fewer than 455 young girls with different skills and trades to be self-reliant in the state.

The girls who were trained in tailoring, soap and bag making among other handcrafts by the Department of Girl Child Development in the office of the governor, also received start-up kits and funds as support to their new businesses.

He said, “It is an initiative that will change the narrative of our children. It is a long tradition that we have in Katsina state to train our young girls to be self-sustaining and able to cater for their needs.

“Since time immemorial before we marry out our girls we make sure to teach them a skill or a trade within which they can earn a living and to help their husbands in running the affairs of the family.”

Earlier, the Special Adviser, Department of Girl Child Education and Child Development, Hon.Jamila Abdu Mani, explained that the 455 trainees were two sets of trained girls harnessed from Katsina, Kaita, Baure and Funtua centres respectively. Adding that the girls were trained by experienced facilitators to be effective and enhance the economy of the state.
