The girls who were trained in tailoring, soap and bag making among other handcrafts by the Department of Girl Child Development in the office of the governor, also received start-up kits and funds as support to their new businesses.

Governor Umar Dikko Radda who was at the graduation ceremony, tasked the girls to be vigilant and use the knowledge acquired to establish themselves and their families, assuring his government’s commitment to support such an initiative to better the livelihood of girls in supporting the society.

He said, “It is an initiative that will change the narrative of our children. It is a long tradition that we have in Katsina state to train our young girls to be self-sustaining and able to cater for their needs.

“Since time immemorial before we marry out our girls we make sure to teach them a skill or a trade within which they can earn a living and to help their husbands in running the affairs of the family.”
