The Katsina State Government has strengthened its security architecture with the delivery of eight brand-new armoured vehicles aimed at boosting operational capacity and improving mobility of security forces across the State’s most vulnerable areas.

The State’s acting governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, who disclosed this, reaffirmed the state government’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens following the recent attacks where numerous worshippers were killed by bandits in Gidan Mantau, Karfi Ward, Malumfashi local government area of the State

Speaking after a State Security Council meeting held on Saturday afternoon, the Acting Governor described the attack as “sad and unfortunate” but emphasised that the government will continue to act decisively to protect lives.

He highlighted the state’s significant investments in security infrastructure, personnel training, and community-based initiatives, including the Community Watch and local Vigilante initiatives, which have successfully secured four of the state’s eight frontline local governments, namely Jibia, Batsari, Safana, and Dan Musa LGAs.

“The battle against banditry is not over until it is won,” Jobe stressed. “We will not be distracted by the cowardly actions of these criminals, who attack innocent citizens in the early hours of the day. We commend the courage of the local communities, who resisted and overpowered the attackers, making their efforts to disrupt peace unsuccessful.”

The Acting Governor confirmed that 76 kidnapped individuals were rescued early Saturday morning, in addition to others who escaped during abduction attempts.

Acting Governor Lawal Jobe also highlighted collaboration with the federal government, noting recent interventions by members of the National Assembly, who met with the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff to secure additional personnel and resources for the State. He announced that the Chief of Army Staff will visit Katsina State on Sunday for an on-ground assessment of security needs.

“Most bandits have now retreated into the bush, and due to the challenging terrain, we require the support of both the Nigerian Army and the Air Force. With timely intelligence from local communities, we have successfully rescued victims and will continue operations until the state is secure,” the Acting Governor affirmed.

The Acting Governor concluded by urging citizens to remain confident in the state government’s efforts, stating: “We will not be distracted. Our resolve is firm, and we will continue until Katsina State is safe for all.”

Following the meeting, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, briefed journalists, expressing sympathy for victims and commending the coordinated security responses.
