The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted three kidnapping attempts by suspected armed bandits in the Danmusa and Faskari local government areas, leading to the rescue of eight kidnapped victims.
According to the spokesman of the command, Sadiq Aliyu, the incidents took place on October 7, 2024, in various locations within the state.
He said first report, received around 11:00 a.m. at the Danmusa Divisional Police Headquarters, indicated that armed bandits, numbering about four, had intercepted two women on the outskirts of Matarau village in an attempt to kidnap them.
He added that simultaneous distress calls were received by the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters. He said that at approximately 10:30 a.m., bandits armed with dangerous weapons blocked Marabar Bangori-Unguwar Boka along the Funtua-Gusau road, kidnapping four individuals. He noted that later that day, at around 2:30 p.m., another group of suspected armed bandits blocked the Unguwar Kafa junction along the Yankara-Faskari road, kidnapping two women and their children.
He added that upon receiving these reports, police operatives were immediately dispatched to the affected areas, engaging the assailants in a gunfight and the officers were able to rescue all the kidnapped victims unharmed, while the assailants fled with various degrees of bullet injuries.
Aliyu said the commissioner of Police for Katsina State, Musa Aliyu commended the officers for their bravery and swift response, emphasising the police command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.
