Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has announced the selection of six pupils from each of the state’s 361 wards – 2,166 children in total, for admission into newly established special model schools offering free education.

Governor Radda disclosed this on Thursday at Nagogo Primary School, Katsina, during the launch of the Dan Amana Tested and Trusted Initiative, a community-driven programme designed to assist orphans and vulnerable children with essential school supplies.

“Our vision is to give these children quality education so that, in the next two or three decades, they will grow to contribute meaningfully to Katsina State,” the governor said, stressing that the selection process was purely merit-based.

He noted that his administration had already sponsored outstanding students from disadvantaged backgrounds to study medicine in Egypt and artificial intelligence in China.

The governor described the gathering as significant, highlighting that supporting the underprivileged attracts divine blessings.

He commended teachers for their dedication and urged them to collaborate with government to sustain Katsina’s educational legacy.

Earlier, the Director General of the Dan Amana initiative, Alhaji Suleiman Kabir Barda, explained that the programme was created to keep less privileged children in school.

“Today’s launch is only the beginning; we will continue visiting schools regularly,” he said, after distributing uniforms, books, and school bags to dozens of beneficiaries.

Barda added that genuine community progress depends on collective support for those most in need.

The event drew key officials, including the Commissioner for Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, Dr. Muhammadu Isa; KYCV Coordinator, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi; local government chairmen; headmasters; and community stakeholders.

Deputy Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Hon. Usman Yusuf Saulawa, who represented Chairman Isah Miqdad Ad Saude, praised the initiative as noble and timely, thanking Barda and his team for uplifting vulnerable citizens.
