Residents of Yan-Maulu community in Baura Local Government Area of Katsina State have raised serious concerns over the deplorable condition of their major access road, calling on the state government to urgently rehabilitate the 25-kilometre stretch, which they describe as a lifeline for economic and social activities in the area.
Community leaders and residents say the road, which connects travelers and traders from neighboring states such as Kano and Jigawa, was initially constructed by local politicians but has since fallen into disrepair due to poor construction quality and lack of maintenance.
Malam Mati Sarkin Pawa, a respected person in the community, lamented the situation, noting that the road was never properly built to begin with.
“It was politicians who helped construct the road, but the foundation was weak and poorly done. We didn’t realize this at first, but now the consequences are clear. We have repeatedly called on them to come and upgrade the road, but all efforts have failed,” he said.
The road, according to Sarkin Pawa, serves not only as a route for travtravellers also as an economic artery that supports a local market frequented by people from within and outside the state.
Another resident, Abdulahi Danjuma, described the condition of the road as a major setback to the community.
“We are facing serious challenges, not just from the bad road, but from a general lack of infrastructure development. That is why we are appealing to the government to step in and assist us,” he said.
In response, the Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to infrastructure development across the state, with a focus on both rural and urban renewal projects.
The commissioner for Works and Housing, Engineer Sani Magaji, told our correspondent that the government is determined to deliver lasting infrastructure before the end of its tenure.
For the residents of Yan-Maulu, the hope remains that this renewed assurance from the state government will soon translate into action, bringing much-needed relief to their long-standing transportation and economic challenges.
