Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Kaduna South Senatorial District, has distributed water-pumping machines to boost irrigation farming in the district.
Katung, who donated the machines on Monday to Kaura local government area, said the gesture was aimed at tackling hunger and ensure food security in the region.
Represented by his senior legislative aide, Mr Wilson Iliya Yangye, the lawmaker said, “Empowering our people in dry season irrigation farming will ensure food security and provide employment opportunities.”
He urged the beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purposes and to help other dry-season farmers within the locality.
Katung revealed that the distribution of the water pumping machines to the beneficiaries followed a feasibility study of the area, adding that the distribution would boost the economy of the council.
In a remark, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaura Local Government Area, Mr Luka David, lauded Senator Sunday Marshall Katung’s gesture, primarily as it targets youth in the area.
Mr David said that although not all youth will benefit from the gestures in this program phase, similar gestures would be extended to others over time. He appealed to the area’s people to support the lawmaker to attract more dividends of democracy.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr Cletus Monday appreciated Senator Katung’s humanitarian gesture towards reducing poverty in Southern Kaduna.
