The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for calling on the people to boycott the recently conducted local government elections.

In a statement sent to LEADERSHIP yesterday, Isah Abubakar Assalafi, the APC’s public relations officer in Kebbi State, said, “The Press Statement by the PDP calling people of the State to Boycott the elections is a clear violation of the constitution and an attempt to Disenfranchise the eligible Voters. Hence, we condemn such a call in its entirety.”

Assalafi explained that election observers were seen making random visits to polling units before and during the elections, while KESIEC officials were present at all polling units and collation centers to ensure transparency and accountability.

He emphasised that the constitution and existing laws grant every citizen the right to association, peaceful assembly, and vote for a party or candidate of their choice, adding that the PDP Kebbi State chapter is attempting to erode these fundamental human rights.

“I therefore urge the PDP to focus on constructive engagements and join us in our efforts to build a better Kebbi State.

“We welcome healthy political discussions grounded in facts, not baseless accusations.

The people of Kebbi State deserve leadership that is focused on progress and unity, not division and political rhetoric.

“I want to assure the people of Kebbi State that the APC remains dedicated to fulfilling its mandate and campaign promises so that every citizen of the state can enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“We therefore call on the good people of Kebbi State to exercise their franchise by electing the candidates of their choice and to disregard the PDP Kebbi State Chapter’s Undemocratic Call for Disenfranchisement.”

Speaking further, Assalafi said that the current administration, under the leadership of Comrade Nasir Idris, has appointed a competent chairman and members of KESIEC after a thorough screening and confirmation by the State Assembly.

“We therefore call on the PDP Kebbi State Chapter to always engage in investigative journalism and approach the media with facts and figures instead of sharing self-seeking stories.”
