It also amended and passed into law a bill for the establishment of the Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission which will repeal and reenact the Kebbi State Local Service Board Cap 87 of 1996 and other related matters.

The two bills, presented by the chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Muhammad Dangoje and the chairman of the  Committee on Security and General Administration, Hon Muhammad Abubakar scaled the third reading and was passed into law at the floor of the House yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the passage, Hon Dangoje said, the first bill seeks to amend the Kebbi State Local Government Law 2008, especially “to elongate the tenure of elected local government council members. This amendment aims to provide stability and continuity in local government administration, allowing council members to implement long-term development projects while the second bill establishes the Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission, repealing and re-enacting the Kebbi State Local Government Service Board and this new commission will be responsible for overseeing the management of local government staff, ensuring professionalism and efficiency in service delivery.”

According to him, the passage of the bills marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to reform its local government system as the amendments and establishment of the commission are expected to bring about improved service delivery, accountability and transparency in local government administration.

Dangoje also stressed that the bills’ implementation is eagerly anticipated to bring about positive change in the state’s local government system.
