The Kebbi State government has constituted a committee to investigate the reasons behind the abandoned contract for the construction of the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge and Hotel Project in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
Members of the committee include the commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed as chairman, special adviser on Due Process, Sirajo Garba Bagudu, permanent secretary, Ministry for Land and Housing, Ahmed Umar Yarima, and the director of Architecture and Building, Ministry of Works and director of EXCO, Kabiru Hassan Wasagu who will serve as secretary.
The committee constituted by Governor Nasir Idris has been given two weeks within which to complete its assignment and submit a comprehensive report to the state government.
Governor Idris mandated members of the committee to, among other things, ascertain the legal status of the project and determine whether the contractor reconciled with the Kebbi State government as earlier advised by the then solicitor-general after the revocation of the contract.
They are to also identify the current status of the abandoned project and investigate the reasons behind its abandonment and to also find out the circumstances that led to the revocation of the contract by the state government as well as identifying both the initial and reviewed contract sums awarded for the project.
The project, initiated by a former military administration, was said to have been abandoned long ago, which has raised serious concerns.
