Kebbi Governor Organises Mass Wedding For 300 Couples

Kebbi State government through the Nafisa Nasir Development Foundation (NANAS) founded by the wife of the governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, has married off 300 less-privileged couples in the society.

The mass wedding which took place at the Emir of Gwandu’s Palace in Birnin Kebbi metropolis witnessed a large crowd from within and outside the state.

The wedding rites were performed by the renowned Kano Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, who described the event as the first of its kind in the northwest region.

At the event, Governor Nasir Idris, who was represented by the speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon Muhammad Usman Zuru, said the mass wedding would be held periodically to reduce the number of unmarried adults in the society.

The governor announced that his administration spent N21 million on bride price for the 300 couples who were drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state.

He said each bride was paid N70,000 for the bride price, room furniture and foodstuff to start their new families.

The governor advised the new couples to abide by Islamic injunctions on marriage by respecting each other to build their matrimonial homes.

Hajiya Idris thanked her husband, for providing the necessary materials and funds for the success of the event.
