The Kebbi State government has taken measures tackle the recent invasion of farms in the state by Quelea birds.

The commissioner for agriculture and natural sciences, Shehu Muazu, disclosed the measures taken by the government at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.

He said the invasion had caused a serious threat to farmlands across the five local government areas of the state, including Kalgo, Bunza, Birnin Kebbi, Gwandu and Argungu.

Muazu disclosed that as part of the measures, Governor Nasir Idris had directed his ministry to commence aerial spraying operations against the birds.

He warned against the use of unapproved chemicals, noting that indiscriminate approach could endanger public health and damage crops and the environment. He also warned farmers to keep away from their farms during the spraying.
