The Kebbi State Government has denied allegations that it ordered suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) political thugs to demolish a property claimed by Abubakar Chika Malami, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the state.
The government described the allegation as false, alleging that it was being circulated by opposition elements to create discord between Governor Nasir Idris and Malami.
In a statement issued by the governor’s media aide on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, the government dismissed the allegation as unwarranted and urged residents, particularly politicians, to disregard claims linking it to the demolition.
The statement said the allegation was intended to create misunderstanding between Idris and Malami, insisting that the government had no involvement in the incident.
Speculation had circulated on Facebook and other social media platforms that a campaign office belonging to Malami was demolished by suspected APC thugs allegedly acting on the state government’s orders.
The governor’s spokesperson had, however, refuted the allegation in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
Meanwhile, findings by LEADERSHIP indicated that the structure reportedly demolished was not a campaign office belonging to any political party, but a piece of land opposite Azbir Hotel along Sani Abacha Bypass in Birnin Kebbi.
The land was allegedly owned by Umaru Gulumbe, a politician and businessman in the state, following a prolonged dispute between him and Malami, who later claimed ownership of the property.
Efforts by our correspondent to reach both parties for their reactions were unsuccessful.
Gulumbe was said to have travelled to Abuja, while Malami was reportedly busy coordinating the flag-off of his governorship campaign.
