Kebbi State government and other stakeholders have donated N105.5million to Hisbah Group to enhance its operations especially in the fight against social vices in the state.
The group received donation of N5 million and N500,000 from the minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation, Abubakar Malami and the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, Dr Nasir Idris, respectively.
The donations were announced yesterday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the group and fund raising of N120 million for its operations.
Announcing the state government’s donation, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the amount was contributed by the executive arm of government, the legislature and the 21 local government areas in the state.
Bagudu, who acknowledged the activities of the group, commended it for being in the forefront of preventing social vices and other criminal activities in the state. He said because of its proactive approach to the prevention of social vices and other crimes, the present administration had co-opted Hisbah into the security machinery of the state.
Bagudu commended the previous governments for establishing Hisbah and its members for fighting crimes in the state.
