Kebbi State Government through the newly established State Geographical Information System (KEBGIS) under Ministry of Lands and Housing has completed its plans to integrate Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) into the geospatial data system through the Geo-reference Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) initiative.

The project manager Kebbi Geographic Information System  (KEBGIS), Surveyor Sa’idu Bashir Bakuwai, stated this to newsmen in his office in Birnin Kebbi,

He said the agency recently organised a five-day workshop in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to enhance the utilization of computers and the internet to support present and future generations by uploading state-specific geospatial data to the GRID3 portal.

According to him, two participants were drawn from the MDAs while three were drawn from the KEBGIS.

Surveyor Bakuwai added that the Ministries to be integrated are Lands and Housing, Education, Health, Agriculture, Water Resources, Environment, Physical Planning, Women Affairs, and the KEBGIS.

While commending the State Ministry of Lands and Housing for its support to the agency, Surveyor Bakuwai, emphasized that the staff of the MDAs involved were trained on new data acquisition methods to streamline government activities requiring data management.

The project manager also thanked the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) for selecting Kebbi State as a beneficiary and also for donating computers, data items and a 12-month internet subscription valued at N540,000, to support the initiative.
