Kebbi Hisbah Treats 4,173 Cases In 3 Years

Hisbah Agency under the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Kebbi State recorded and treated 4,173 cases between 2023 and 2026.

The state commissioner for Religious Affairs, Muhammed Sani Aliyu, revealed this yesterday at a media briefing organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture at the ministry’s conference hall.

He said 1,496 cases were reconciliation of marriage/community disputes, 189 cases of lost and found children, 57 cases of alleged rape, 52 cases of children that were lost but not found, 42 cases of girls forced into marriage and seven cases of alleged homosexuals.

Others are 1,253 on liquor and drugs, 271 persons caught on immoral acts, 98 on court-referred cases and 17 hemp and Shisha smokers, as well as 37 on theft.

The rest were 169 young and married women caught in hotels or rest houses, 132 girls camped in houses by men without the knowledge of their parents or guardians, 114 cases of pregnancy without marriage, 43 mad people or lunatics caught and hospitalised, 27 women found in the bushes being possessed by spirits or jinns, and nine marriages contracted with pregnancy.

Aliyu added that the agency’s officials were operating under the ministry’s mandate and with the support of the state’s security agencies.

According to him, the aim and mission are to ensure that people become good members of society.
