A man, identified as Sule Gumu, has reportedly killed his wife, Umaima Maidawa, Bayawa in Augie local government area of Kebbi State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the victim’s death was from domestic violence.

The suspect was arrested in Katami town, Sokoto State, where he had fled after the unfortunate incident.

The chairman of the Augie council, Hon Yahaya Muhammed Augie, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said it occurred on Wednesday.

He said, “When I received the report of the incident, I quickly mobilised security personnel to the scene, and luckily the culprit, Sule Gumu, was arrested.

“We, however, evacuated the body to the General Hospital, Argungu, for diagnosis and other investigations,” he added.

Augie said that after the investigation by the doctors in the hospital, the deceased’s body was taken to Bayawa town, where she was buried according to Islamic rites.

The council boss, however, directed security agencies to investigate the act of culpable homicide and ensure that he faces the law.

Augie also urged community leaders to always report all forms of domestic violence and suspicious activities to security agents for amicable resolution.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Augie council commended the chairman for his prompt intervention and active involvement, describing his actions as a clear demonstration of the local government area’s zero tolerance for crime and violence.
